{"id":387,"date":"2017-02-08T13:43:21","date_gmt":"2017-02-08T00:43:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cmas.nz\/site\/?page_id=387"},"modified":"2019-09-07T17:32:27","modified_gmt":"2019-09-07T05:32:27","slug":"cubs-personal-challenge-badges","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.cmas.nz\/site\/cubs\/cubs-personal-challenge-badges\/","title":{"rendered":"Cubs Awards Scheme"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cmas.nz\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Cubs-Minecrafter-Badge-Pack-of-5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-391\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cmas.nz\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Cubs-Minecrafter-Badge-Pack-of-5-300x203.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"391\" width=\"300\" height=\"203\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cmas.nz\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Cubs-Minecrafter-Badge-Pack-of-5-300x203.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cmas.nz\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Cubs-Minecrafter-Badge-Pack-of-5-768x518.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.cmas.nz\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Cubs-Minecrafter-Badge-Pack-of-5-1024x691.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.cmas.nz\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Cubs-Minecrafter-Badge-Pack-of-5.jpg 1899w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Location of badges<\/h2>\n<p>Badges are to be sewn onto the uniform in the appropriate place.&nbsp; You can see a diagram of this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cmas.nz\/site\/cubs\/cubs-personal-challenge-badges\/attachment\/cub-shirt-layout\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>When it is time to remove badges from your uniform (such as when moving to a new Section, or when you have more than 3 Event badges) you can place the badges onto your <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cmas.nz\/site\/keas\/campfire-blanket\/\">Campfire Blanket.<\/a>&nbsp; There are also some special badges which are only ever placed on the blanket, and not on the uniform.<\/p>\n<h2>Cub Badge<\/h2>\n<p>A Kea moving to Cubs or a new entrant needs to learn about the Cub Section.&nbsp; The Cub Badge covers that introductory knowledge.&nbsp; If the Cub was previously a Kea, then they will also get a &#8216;Kea Link&#8217; badge (a small orange chain symbol) to show this.<\/p>\n<p>The Cub badge is awarded when the entrant is invested into the Cubs section.&nbsp; Typically, this will be a few weeks after they join, but may be delayed due to other events.<\/p>\n<h2>Bronze, Silver and Gold Levels<\/h2>\n<p>The award scheme is based on participating in activities and \u201clearning by doing\u201d.&nbsp; It has three levels (Bronze, Silver and Gold) based on the programme cornerstones, each of which is made up of four sections. The Cornerstones are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Outdoors,<\/li>\n<li>Community,<\/li>\n<li>Personal Development,<\/li>\n<li>New Experiences.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To earn each level of the Core Award, Cubs need to complete:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Three activities in each of the sections of the \u201cOutdoors\u201d, \u201cCommunity\u201d and \u201cPersonal Development\u201d cornerstones;<\/li>\n<li>One activity in each section of the \u201cNew Experiences\u201d cornerstone.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Core badges are awarded as the Cub progresses through the year and meets requirements.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cmas.nz\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Cubs-Bronze-Booklet.pdf\">Cubs-Bronze-Booklet<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cmas.nz\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Cubs-Silver-Booklet.pdf\">Cubs-Silver-Booklet<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cmas.nz\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Cubs-Gold-Booklet.pdf\">Cubs-Gold-Booklet<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Personal Challenge badges<\/h2>\n<p>Cubs can be awarded Personal Challenge badges if they have performed the tasks to meet the requirements.&nbsp; The list of the requirements for each badge is in the Award book (see below).<\/p>\n<p>To be awarded a badge, the Cub needs to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Perform the tasks as listed in the Award book.&nbsp; There is a summary for the tasks here:&nbsp; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cmas.nz\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Cub-Awards.pdf\">Cub Awards<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Prepare the necessary evidence that the tasks were completed.&nbsp; Most tasks will require at least a few paragraphs to be written detailing what they have done and what they have learnt.&nbsp; Photographs of tasks being performed, and any items created (such as for the Artist badge) should also be included.&nbsp; For some achievements, such as Athletics or Swimming, the signature of a parent or teacher next to the item in the book is appropriate.<\/li>\n<li>The evidence should be given to a Leader at the den, who will ask some questions to follow up on what has been learnt.&nbsp; They may ask the Cub to demonstrate or display their skills or achievements to the rest of the pack.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When they have earned an Award, it will be presented at the closing ceremony.&nbsp; Parents are welcome to take photographs if they wish.&nbsp; The Cub should then sew the badge onto their uniform in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cmas.nz\/site\/uncategorized\/cubs-shirt-badge-layout\/\">appropriate place<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In the (rare) event that a Cub manages to earn <em>every<\/em> Personal Challenge badge in the book, they are eligible for a special award.<\/p>\n<h2>Event Badges<\/h2>\n<p>Occasionally, special badges will be awarded for attendance at certain events (for example, the ANZAC Day ceremony).&nbsp; These badges may be placed on the uniform, but there should not be more than 3 of them at any one time.&nbsp; Older badges may then be placed on the Cubs&#8217; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cmas.nz\/site\/keas\/campfire-blanket\/\">campfire blanket<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Leader Badges<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-227 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cmas.nz\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Chil-150x150.gif\" alt=\"Chil\" data-id=\"227\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\">Individual Leaders may award their own badges to Cubs who have made a special achievement or effort.&nbsp; These are placed on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cmas.nz\/site\/keas\/campfire-blanket\/\">campfire blanket<\/a>.&nbsp; There are also other special blanket badges awarded for excelling in various activities.<\/p>\n<p><br style=\"clear: both;\"><\/p>\n<h2>Recognition Badges<\/h2>\n<p>Any Cub scout (or member of any other section) that makes a significant contribution to Scouting may be able to earn a special recognition badge.<\/p>\n<p>These are given at three levels, those being in increasing order of importance &#8211; Group, Zone, and National.&nbsp; These badges are for significant achievement, and are worn on the uniform.<\/p>\n<h2>Outline of Cubs Award Scheme<\/h2>\n<p>The Cub Section Award Scheme is effectively a link between the Kea and Scout schemes.&nbsp; It moves the emphasis from participation towards proficiency in skills and activities.<\/p>\n<p>These items may be purchased from Scouts Direct:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.scoutingdirect.co.nz\/Home\/tabid\/1044\/CategoryID\/29\/List\/1\/Level\/a\/ProductID\/3428\/Default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SCOUTS Direct &#8211;
