Watermelon Soap
An easy-to-make soap that is a lovely gift for family and friends. All the things you need to make these sweet little soaps, as well as the recipe, are from Pure Nature.
Ingredients
- 670g Clear Soap Base
- 330g White Soap Base
- 30ml (3 teaspoons) watermelon fragrance
- 1 teaspoon kiwifruit seeds
- ½ teaspoon pink mica
- ¼ teaspoon green mica
Equipment
- Silicone Soap mould with six cavities
- Knife
- Chopping Board
- Measuring Spoons
- Metal bowl
- Saucepan/Pot
- Wooden Spoon
- Spatula
- Oven gloves/Potholders
Method
PART ONE – THE PINK PART/FLESH OF THE WATERMELON
- Cut the clear soap base into small cubes and put it into a metal bowl
- Boil water in a pot on the stove
- Put the metal bowl on top of the pot of water. This will allow the heat from the boiling water to melt the soap.
- Once the soap is melted, turn off the stove.
Steps 5 & 6 need to be done very quickly or the soap will harden before you can pour it.
- Using oven gloves, carefully take the metal bowl of melted soap back to your table and add 1 teaspoon of kiwifruit seeds, 2 teaspoons of Watermelon Fragrance, and ½ teaspoon of pink mica colouring to it. Stir it well with a wooden spoon
- Pour the pink soap into the moulds, making sure you don’t fill them up all the way. They should be two thirds full. Use a spatula to get the last of the soap out of the bowl.
- Leave the pink portion to set while you work on the green part
PART TWO – THE GREEN PART/RIND OF THE WATERMELON
- Wash up your bowl, spoon and spatula. Make sure you dry them VERY thoroughly. They should not be wet!
- Cut the clear soap base into small cubes and put it into the clean, dry metal bowl
- Check your pink soap to make sure it’s set!
- Boil some water in a pot on the stove
- Put the metal bowl on top of the pot of water to melt the soap
- Once the soap is melted, turn off the stove
Steps 5 & 6 need to be done very quickly or the soap will harden before you can pour it.
- Using oven gloves, carefully take the metal bowl of melted soap back to your table and add 1 teaspoon of watermelon fragrance and ¼ teaspoon of green mica colouring to it. Stir it well with a wooden spoon
- Pour the green soap into the moulds on top of the pink soap. You can fill the moulds right to the top. Use the spatula to get the last of the soap out.
- Leave to set.
- Take them out of the moulds and give them as a gift (or keep them for yourself!)
You can also melt the soap base in a microwave. Simply heat it on full power in one-minute bursts until the soap is melted.
